Dandelion Root

Also known as lion’s tooth, dandelion root is an extremely beneficial herbal remedy that has been around for a very long time. It is a perennial herb that grows in the Northern hemisphere as you may know from looking out any lawn of a North American family. Thought of as weeds most of the time, the dandelion root has a long history in traditional herbal medicine. It has been used to treat everything from indigestion to liver disease. Europeans have been using it just as long as traditional Chinese medicine and is commonly accepted as a way of treatment for liver disorders, fluid retention and appetite loss. Dandelion root is a great source of lecithin which is a nutrient that the body needs to elevate the brain function. It works to maintain good liver function and can even play a role in fighting off the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. As a liver detoxification it is considered to be one of the best, and can even be used for PMS in women by helping to relieve bloating and water gain in the body and extremities. Recent studies show that dandelion root can work to ward off the growth of fungus that causes vaginal yeast infections and may even decrease glucose levels as well as the above mentioned benefits. It is because dandelion root has many vital vitamins and nutrients such as beta carotene, vitamin A and C, as well as other antioxidants in the body that can inhibit things like tumor growth as well. Dandelion root is incredibly safe for the body because it contains many of the already necessary vitamins and nutrients so there are rarely any side effects from it with the exception of people that are allergic to ragweed, daisies and anything from the Asteraceae family of flowers and herbs.
